With a love of vintage markets, California-born stylist and consultant Kim Hersov finds inspiration in everything from old world silhouettes to vintage prints. Her eye for detail means her personal style is as just as artful as her sophisticated yet unconventional muses. Here, she explains her favorite new creative hobby and shares some of her fashion wisdom.

My style summed up in three words is

Love of layering. It’s quite eclectic as my days are so diverse. I juggle the school run with brand consultancy work, other projects and evening events with my partner who is an artist.

The best style lesson I’ve learnt living in Britain

Is that there are no rules. There’s such amazing diversity here, you can really push the boundaries; it’s a very creative place.

It’s never one thing that inspires my style

It’s a combination of influences. I was in the British Museum in the ancient Egyptian section the other day and some of the jewelry was extraordinary. I found the Frida Kahlo show really influential too, and TV shows with great costumes such as The Alienist with Elle Fanning.

I wear Borgo de Nor

Because I love the elegance of the dresses, their versatility and the sophisticated prints. You can dress them up or down depending on how you style them – by day, I wear them with flat boots and a leather jacket, and at night I’ll just add heeled boots and statement jewelry.

Between 8:15am and 9am is my time

I’ve been reading a book called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, which is about creativity, and one of the exercises in it is based on journaling; you write three pages every day. You don’t think, you just write what’s in your head and it can either lead to creativity and some interesting thoughts, or it can clear your mind of mental garbage, it just depends what happens on that day when you get to the page.

I love collecting

My latest thing has been trying to find old china sets and vintage linen. I’m always at vintage markets.

My life motto is

Live in the moment. Though it’s sometimes easier said than done.
